  • Mitch Rapp Series (American Assassin) - Vince Flynn

Huge Dylan O'Brien fan. Also, Michael Keaton. Readily admit to buying American Assassin because of O'Brien doing the movie, plus the great reviews. The book is amazing. I am doing the audio version and can't stop listening. There are 15 books total in the series. Sadly, the author died due to prostate cancer. I'm trying to decide if I want to buy all of the books and just keep reading or read another book that is on my list.

They had to make some changes, so they could update the movie. But from what I've seen, I'm not sure I approve of the changes. As with most people that read, someone, mucking about with a favorite character pisses me off. In the book, Mitch is a good student. He's smart. He's a national award-winning, scholarship athlete. Not the in and out of trouble person he is portrayed in the movie. I don't like that. Why make him a trouble maker? He can't be a good guy and killer of terrorists as well?

So I highly recommend the book. I'll suffer for some Keaton and O'Brien if the movie sucks. If they drift too far from the true character, I'll be bitching and moaning at the people that made the movie, all over the internet.

To clarify. Vince Flynn wrote two prequels to his Mitch Rapp series. American Assassin and Kill Shot. He wrote these after he started the series. So they are the first two books in the series and all should be read in chronological order.
I am almost finished with Kill Shot. I wasn't sure at first if I would like it as much as American Assassin, because it appeared to be mostly espionage. But that was just laying the basis. This books is just as good as AA. I really wish I could just read all of the books one after the other, but I have too many others that need to be read for one reason or another. I don't know if men and women have certain preferences in reading. Most likely. A man reading a bodice ripper just doesn't seem possible. That being said, a great many men read what I call vampire porn. The paranormal romance books. Most of these books have great stories and the romance part is not the main attraction. You know the HEA is coming, but the story is also really good. I wouldn't waste my time on paranormal romance books if they were filler bullshit. Which is what Hamilton did to her Anita Blake series. Sucked the life right out of them.
I realize these books might not appeal to women. But I'll watch Jason Bourne before I'll watch a romantic comedy. Always. So, maybe it's just me. But even if you don't like espionage books, give AA a try. See what you think. So far, I highly recommend the series.

I'll check this series out. Reading Midnight Texas trilogy by Charlaine Harris. Reading it to gear up for the premiere of the TV series. Books a bit slow but it's alright. check out Jason Brant's Asher Benson series and The Hunger good.

Will do. Thank you. I love the Sookie Stackhouse books. True Blood was a travesty. I didn't like it at all.
Purchased 3 more of the Mitch Rapp series. That will be half of the books. Will take a break after these and read other stuff I'm behind on.
